Clinical Guidance Training for Treating Pregnant & Post-Partum Women With Opioid Use Disorder & Their Infants

 

The Clinical Guidance training provides comprehensive, evidence-based information to provide the optimal management of pregnant and parenting women with opioid use disorder and their infants. The training highlights West Virginia's successful approaches for caring for the mother with opioid use disorder and her child. This interactive training aims to help healthcare professionals and patients determine the most clinically appropriate action for a particular situation and informs individualized treatment decisions.

Following this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize the importance of treating opioid use disorder in pregnancy for both mother and infant.
  2. Prepare and execute appropriate treatment plans for opioid use disorder in the mother and fetus, as well as neonatal abstinence syndrome in the infant during peripartum and postpartum period.

 

This training is targeted towards physicians, nurses, physician assistants, social workers, LPCs, peer support specialists, recovery coaches, and addictions professionals who treat opioid use disorder (OUD) in pregnant and parenting women (PPW) and their infants.

Dr Hendree Jones

Presenter:
Dr Hendree Jones
Executive Director, UNC Horizons; Professor, Dept OB/GYN, Chapel Hill

Dr. Jones is an internationally recognized expert in the development and examination of both behavioral and pharmacologic treatments for pregnant women and their children in risky life situations. She has received continuous National Institutes of Health funding since 1994 and has written more than 200 publications and authored two books. She has won multiple awards including in 2020, the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) R. Brinkley Smithers and Distinguished Scientist Award. She is a consultant for the United Nations and the World Health Organization. Dr. Jones leads or is involved in projects around the world focused on improving the lives of children, women, and families.

 

Jessica Auffant

Jessica Auffant holds a master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Ohio University and is a Neonatal Therapeutic Unit and Maternal Opioid Medical Support Program Manager and Nurse Practitioner at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She is also a pediatric Critical Care registered nurse.

Laura Lander, MSW, AADC is an Associate Professor Social Work Section Chief and Addiction Therapist in the Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, and Department of Neuroscience, at West Virginia University, School of Medicine. She graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University in 1994, and currently holds licensure as an Independent Clinical Social Worker under the West Virginia Board of Social Work Licensure.

 

Amanda Newhouse

Amanda Newhouse is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social worker and holds a master’s degree in social work from West Virginia University. She is a clinical therapist at The Chestnut Ridge Center at West Virginia University Behavioral Medicine.

Dr. Price is a licensed psychologist and assistant professor at Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. She is a member of the Healthy Connections Coalition and serves as program director of the Maternal Addiction Recovery Center, a partnership between Marshall Psychiatry and Marshall OB/GYN providing Medication-Assisted Treatment to pregnant and early postpartum mothers with Opioid Use Disorder.
